The BJP on Sunday demanded the removal of State Chief Electoral Officer Sunil Gupta and countermanding of elections marred by Trinamool violence in the 11 Assembly seats in Birbhum district.
The party had asked the EC to “immediately remove the CEO who is unabashedly allowing the TMC to flagrantly violate electoral laws and the Commission’s orders,” BJP leader Bhupender Yadav said.
A delegation of saffron leadership including Nirmala Sitharaman, Yadav and Shrikant Sharma met and submitted a memorandum at the EC on Sunday morning. The leaders also complained against the way Anubrata Mandal roamed about the district violating EC orders of house arrest.
