Jamat-e-Islami Hindi, a leading socio-religious organisation of Muslims in India has urged the Narendra Modi Government to come clean on its stand over the Babri Masjid case and clarify whether it agrees with those who were threatening the minority community with dire consequences if they don’t withdraw their claim over the site in Ayodhya.
JIH Chief Moulana Syed Jalalauddin Ansar Umri told a press conference in Hyderabad that if a Government fails to ensure safety and security of all the citizens and curb the lawlessness, then what is the use of having such a Government.
“The stand of Muslims is that even if the Supreme Court delivers a judgment against them, they were willing to accept it but the communal forces were not ready to accept anything. It is a must that the Government should declare that it will implement the verdict of the Supreme Court”, he said.
The Jamat ruled out any possibility of out of court settlement of the Babari Masjid case, he added. “The case of the Muslim community is very strong. No one has evidence that the mosque was built after razing a temple. We are confident that the court will decide the case in favor of the mosque keeping in view the demands of justice”, the JIH chief said. On the threats that if Muslims don’t withdraw their claim, there will be bloodshed, Moulana Umri said that this shows that the communal forces have made up their mind to unleash violence against Muslims. “Isn’t it the government’s responsibility to protect the lives and properties of Muslims”.
On the issue of relocating a mosque he said that this does not apply to Babari Masjid as five times prayers were being offered there till it was locked in 1949 and there was a full time Imam too.
He also supported the disciplinary action by All India Muslim Personal law Board against Moulana Salman Hussaini Nadvi who had suggested relocating the mosque. Moulana Umri also expressed his shock and surprise over the claim of Moulana Salman Nadvi that preparations were on for massacring Muslims in the country. “He should reveal his source of information”, he said.
Moulana Umri termed the triple Talaq Bill as “anti Shariah” and unconstitutional and demanded its withdrawal.
.Mohammed Saleem Engineer, General Secretary of JIH expressed his deep concern over the increasing lawlessness in the country and said Muslims were being targeted in the name of nationalism and cow protection. “some organizations think that they are above the law”, he said.
