Relax norms for aid to riot victims, UP urges Centre

Published on:

The Uttar Pradesh Government has requested the Central Government to relax the norms for financial aid given to the families of the victims of Naxal/communal violence or terror incidents apprehending that it may mar the chances of victims of Muzaffarnagar riots to get a financial help.

Under the scheme, families of such victims were given a financial help of `3 lakh. The Central Government had changed norms in victims of Naxal/communal violence or terror incidents financial aid scheme by putting a condition  that if some members of victims’ family get a job then they will not get the financial aid.

The Central Government sent a letter to this effect on September 12.

The State Government had announced to give job to the dependents of the victim on the basis of their academic qualification. It was argued that there was no such condition in the original structure of the guidelines for the same under Central Government’s scheme.

The condition suggested by the Central Government had put the State Government in a fix as it will hamper the quickening of the process of giving financial help to needy families of the riot victims. The State Government had announced financial aid to the families of  the victim after the riot erupted in Muzaffarnagar and neigbouring districts.
