Rejection of no-trust motion against TMC irks Congress

The West Bengal Assembly on Monday witnessed tumultuous scenes with the Congress MlAs staging a walk-out alleging a clandestine tie-up between the left and the Trinamool Congress after the No-Confidence Motion they brought against the ruling outfit was rejected by Speaker Biman Banerjee who however allowed the left Front’s Motion for discussion.

A similar Motion brought by the sole BJP candidate Samik Bhattacharya was also rejected by the Speaker. “It seems that the left and the Trinamool are hand-in-glove now” Congress legislature Party leader Md Sohrab said adding the main intention of the Congress was to officially identify the party turncoats who had switched sides to the Trinamool Congress.

“We would issue a whip and then things would get clear. These turncoats then would lose their membership necessitating a fresh election which would in turn expose the Trinamool’s growing weakness in the State,” Sohrab said.

The No-Trust Motion brought by the left on issues like Makra violence would be discussed at a later date. The Trinamool currently has a safe majority in the House which has strength of 294 with 187 MlAs. The left has 56 MlAs while the Congress has 39.
