It is interesting to note that even political opponents of the Congress have praised the repair work of Kedarnath temple and nearby areas after 2013 disasters

The election results of Kedarnath Assembly constituency would also serve as a referendum on the repair and reconstruction activities undertaken by the Congress Government in the aftermath of one of the worst natural disasters in 2013.

Chief Minister Harish Rawat always makes a point that his Government

has done wonderful work in restoration of Kedarnath devastated by deluge.  The Rawat Government also takes pride in the fact that it has brought back the economic lifeline of the region, the Char Dham Yatra on track.

The Government claims that more than 15 lakh people undertook Char Dham Yatra in 2016. It is interesting to note that even political opponents of the Congress have praised the restoration work of Kedarnath temple and nearby areas.

In her recent visit to the State, firebrand BJP leader and Union Minister Uma Bharati appreciated the efforts of the Congress Government for construction activities in Kedarnath. The CM is taking personal interest in the Assembly elections here. He has visited Kedarnath many a times after assuming charge of the CM. In order to a give a message of safe Kedarnath, Rawat organised a musical event in Kedarnath in which famous singer Kailash Kher took part.

The sitting MlA from the party Shailarani Rawat was one of the rebel MlAs who joined BJP last year. The BJP has rewarded her with party ticket this time ignoring the strong claim from the former MlA Asha Nautiyal in the process.

Nautiyal revolted on this decision and is in fray as independent candidate.  In a clever move the Congress has given ticket to journalist-turned-politician Manoj Rawat who enjoys a good reputation in the area.  The Congress candidate Manoj is confident that the good work of the government in Kedarnath would reflect into votes.

Pradip Aswal, who owns a small shop in Guptkashi market, said, “It is true that the people got proper monetary compensation but people here are not very happy as the Government is yet to create facilities  like places of stay for the tourists.’’
