Despite protests from the teachers’ association of the Pt Jawahar lal Nehru Memorial Medical College, the College administration on Tuesday conducted interviews for promotional posts.
Career of around 70 teachers of Pt Jawahar lal Nehru Memorial Medical College could be affected because of these walk-in interviews that were held for 39 posts in the college. The move has evoked strong reactions from the teachers’ association of the medical college who had also met Health Minister Amar Agrawal. “Though the Minister assured to intervene in the matter, nothing happened and the administration went ahead with the interviews,” said a teacher of the medical college on condition of anonymity.
Around 70 teachers of the medical college, who have the prerequisite experience and were eligible for the posts, were not made a part of this recruitment process. “This is very disappointing and we will now approach the High Court,” said Dr Atin Kundu, secretary of teachers’ association of the college talking to The Pioneer over phone. The walk-in interviews were conducted on Tuesday on the college premises for 39 promotional posts of Professors and Associate Professors despite protests from the teachers’ association. They had also expressed their resentment in front of the college dean.
The college cannot recruit teachers from outside the institutions when it already has eligible candidates for the vacant posts. Out of more than 150 teachers in the college, around 70 meet all the criteria for the promotional posts in the college, said members of the teachers’ association. According to the orders from Dean’s office, interviews for 12 posts of Professor and 39 posts of Associate Professor were conducted on Tuesday.
“The college administration, according to the rules, cannot recruit outsiders on promotional posts if eligible candidates are already waiting to be promoted within the institution,” said Dr AR Verma, member of the teachers’ association.
