Rebel Goa faction merges with RSS, but with a warning to BJP

Rebel RSS leader from Goa Subhash Velingkar on Monday announced the dissolution of the breakaway Sangh faction in the State, while warning the BJP not to take Swayamsevaks and the organisation for granted.

Velingkar said all members of the breakaway Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) faction will resume their attendance at regular shakhas hosted by the parent organisation, marking the end of seven months of friction between rebel RSS workers from Goa on one hand and the RSS leadership and State BJP leaders on the other.

Addressing a Press conference in Panaji on Monday, Velingkar said by stepping out of the RSS framework temporarily and taking on the BJP leadership in Goa over repeated violation of the RSS teachings and principles by the latter, the State RSS workers had shown that values taught by the Sangh meant more than everything else.

“We stood for principles, which the BJP had trampled under their feet. By sticking to our ground and contesting elections against them,” Velingkar said. “When we started the breakaway faction, we had always said that after the elections we will be going back to the RSS. We wanted to show that we could stand up to the power and might of the BJP. We have shown that we can do it. Joining the RSS back does not mean we have compromised on any issue,” Velingkar said.

Velingkar was sacked as the Goa vibhag pramukh of the RSS in August last year, following his constant criticism of the BJP-led government in Goa, especially Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar, for what the rebel RSS leader claims, is the betrayal of a promise made to stop government grants to English medium primary schools, most of which are run by a Society operated by the influential Roman Catholic Church in Goa.
