Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee who is also the supremo of the Trinamool Congress has asked her party leaders to reach out to the people during the Durga Puja
holidays.
The Chief Minister who earlier told her ministers to exercise caution while speaking in public, have also directed the elected representatives to remain camped in their local areas reaching out to people.
“The Chief Minister has directed the ministers and the elected representatives to remain alert during the Pujas,” an official said adding the Chief Minister’s directions though routine come amid reports of attempts of disruption in law and order situation.
“Some forces are active in Bengal to create tensions in the society apart from the police it is the duty of the people’s representatives to keep an eye on them so that no situation spins out of control,” a senior party leader and an MP said adding “Mamata Banerjee being a astute politician she understands people’s pulses … she also understands when mischief mongers use certain situations to ignite tensions this is the reason she during a cabinet meeting asked her ministers not to speak out of turn or to be very careful about selecting their words.”
Banerjee earlier told her ministers that they being the “face of the Government” should exercise restraint while making statements about any event or any organization.
The Chief Minister’s cautionary remarks assume importance considering the Assembly elections which are barely 7-8 months away.
“She also asked all the elected representatives to keep a close eye on the developments during the Pujas,” another senior TMC leader said. “She has reminded that the “Pujas are the best social events when the ministers or the MLAs and MPs can reach out to the people and hear out their issues you can assuage their feelings and wean them back if they have any issues,” the leader and who is also a minister said quoting Banerjee.
