Ranchi villagers vow to remove terror tag

The residents of Sithio, who find themselves pitchforked into unfamiliar territory, unable to come to terms with an allegation that the village groomed at least six suspected operatives of Indian Mujahideen (IM), on Friday vowed not to let this happen again.

Around 100 villagers, led by Ranchi Anjuman Islamia and Ansari Mahapanchayat held a general meeting against terrorism at the village khalihaan (tithe barn) along with some intellectuals and political workers and discussed how to regain the dignity they have lost in the recent episode of Patna blasts.

The meeting at Sithio started with a silence for two minutes to pay homage to those innocent persons, who lost their lives in Patna blast on Sunday last. It ran for one and half hours. Sithio, some 20 km from Ranchi, attracted the headlines when Md Imtiyaz, arrested soon after the blasts in Patna during Narendra Modi’s rally, allegedly revealed that he was part of Ranchi module of IM consisting of at least six members.

“Whatever happened in Sithio in the last few days must be condemned. We should learn lessons from this and make it a point that it does not happen again in this village,” said Md Arif Ansari of Sithio village.

He also appealed to the media that they should carry the news in a right manner so that the image of the whole society does not get tarnished.
