The holy month of Ramzan in Kashmir Valley ended on a violent note as shortly after Eid prayers a young woman was shot dead inside her home by suspected terrorists in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Wednesday.

This is the second incident in last 72 hours where a civilian was shot dead by ‘unidentified’ terrorist from a very close range. A 32-year-old man was earlier killed near Panthchowk late on Monday evening.

According to police records, around two dozen terrorists were killed during Ramzan in relentless operations across South Kashmir districts. Meanwhile, sporadic  protests were reported from different parts of kashmir valley after the Eid prayers.

A group of protesters, wearing masks, pelted stones on security forces near Jamia Masjid in Srinagar.

Protesters were also seen holding up posters of terrorists Zakir Musa and UN designated terrorist Masood Azhar while engaging with the security forces in the area.

According to police, immediately after the Eid prayers ended at the historic Jamia Masjid, youths assembled outside the mosque started pelting stones on security forces on duty. The security forces used tear gas shells to disperse the protesters.

Similar protests erupted between the youth and Jammu and Kashmir Police in Baramulla district of North Kashmir soon after the Eid prayers.

The clashes took place near Jamia Masjid in Sopore town in the district. According to eyewitnesses, the youths clashed with the security forces after Eid prayers ended. Police lobbed teargas shells to disperse the protesters.

In Pulwama, a police officer said, “some unknown gunmen barged inside the residential house of Nageena Jan wife of late Mohammad Yousuf Lone and opened fire upon her”. In the incident, “Nageena suffered critical bullet wounds and died instantly while as another person namely Jalaludin Bhufanda also suffered bullet injuries,” he said.

Mohd Yousuf Lone, husband of Nageena Jan was also killed by some unknown gunmen on May 19, 2017.

On the other hand, senior officers of the Indian and Pakistan army exchanged sweet packets along the line of control at Chakan-da-bagh in Poonch while BSF officers and Pak rangers met each other at the zero line along the International border across Jammu frontier on the occasion of Eid.
