PMK founder Dr S Ramdoss, along with some party functionaries, was arrested on Tuesday at Villupuram, 170 km south of Chennai, for staging a demonstration defying a ban order. later he was remanded to judicial custody for 15 days.
Though the district administration had given permission on Monday to the PMK to stage a protest march, the same was called off by late last night. The demonstration was in protest against the police action on PMK workers for last Thursday’s rioting near Mahabalipuram in connection with the party’s Chitra Pournami festival. It is alleged that the PMK workers burnt down many houses belonging to the activists of VCK, a Dalit political outfit. PNS
