launching a scathing attack on the Congress party for allegedly not taking firm steps for the welfare of farmers and to root out the poverty, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national president Rajnath Singh on Sunday said the Congress had been doing the marketing of ‘poverty’ since the regime of Indira Gandhi to misguide the people just for grabbing the power.
Rajnath Singh while addressing ‘Parivartan Rally’ organised by former Haryana Chief Parliamentary Secretary and new entrant in BJP Ramesh Kaushik here on Sunday raised questions over ‘intention’ of the Congress party.
The BJP national president said notwithstanding ruling over 56 years in the nation, the Congress has entirely failed not only in resolving the poverty issue but also in doing the welfare of farmer fraternity. He also charged the UPA Government with not properly tackling the border issues which had posed a serious threat to the nation security and integrity.
“Congress party has worked for snatching the costly fertile land of farmers in the name of development. The Congress has failed to provide farmers any extra sources of income so that farmers could earn their livelihood after loosing their permanent source of income in the shape of acquirement of their land,” said Rajnath Singh.
He announced that the BJP would make a firm source of extra income available to the farmers across the nation if it came to power in the coming Parliament polls so as to ensure their lives are secure in monetary terms. He also promised that prices of chemical fertilisers would also be curtailed to a large extent to bring it under the reach of poor farmers.
Rajnath Singh maintained the British rulers had gone out from the nation over 66 years ago but their ‘divide and rule’ policy was still in practice in India and it was the Congress party which had been executing this anti-social policy to instigate the communal violence with an intention to remain in power.
“Congress party is the fully responsible for the communal violence in the country as it has not so far taken any initiative during its 56 years of rule to maintain social harmony and brotherhood between the communities,” he said.
The BJP chief also appealed the people to protect the prestige of country by voting the Congress out of the power in coming Parliament polls. Speaking on the occasion, leader of Opposition in Parliament Sushma Swaraj also urged the people in Haryana dialect to save the poor people, farmers and labourers from devastation by exercising their franchise against the Congress in the coming polls.
“You are the only one who can get rid from the anti-people rule of UPA Government through Constitutional right of voting. The Congress has done nothing except to work for destroying the poor people, farmers and labourers hence, now the time has come to teach a lesson to the Congress for its wrong-doing,” said Sushma Swaraj.
Former BJP national president Nitin Gadkari charged the Congress-led UPA Government for working against the farmers who had been forced to commit suicide because they did not get the remunerative prices of their produce. The prices of fertilisers had been increased by around four times and it was at the cost of farmers, he said and demanded that more number of fertiliser manufacturing units should be opened in the country to reduce the imports and to bring price competition among the manufacturing units.
Haryana BJP chief Ram Bilas Sharma, national president of BJP Kisan Morcha Om Prakash Dhankhar, HJC supremo Kuldeep Bishnoi were among those prominent leaders who spoke on the occasion.
