The New Delhi-bound Rajdhani Express escaped a tragedy on Tuesday after its pantry car caught fire accidentally but it was controlled before the fire could spread to other coaches near Dharamtul station in Assam’s Nagaon district.
Sugato lahiri, the Chief Public Relations Officer of the Northeast Frontier Railway, said that the pantry car of the 12435 DN Dibrugarh-New Delhi Rajdhani Express, which left Dibrugarh on Monday, caught fire between Dharamtul and Sonuabari stations around 4.15 am on Tuesday.
“The affected coach was immediately isolated and the fire was extinguished with the help of the Fire Brigade. There were no casualties or injuries,” lahiri said, adding that the train, after detachment of the affected pantry car, resumed its onward journey from Sounabari station around 9.45 am and left Guwahati at about 12 hours, six hours late for Delhi.
“An enquiry has been ordered into the incident. The suspected cause of the fire is electrical short circuit, however, the actual cause can be confirmed only after the enquiry gets completed,” he added. There were at least 15 people including the panty car staff in the coach when it was engulfed in fire and all of them, however, escaped unhurt.
