The BJP has suffered a major setback in Hyderabad city just ahead of Greater Hyderabad Municipal corporation elections as one of its city MlAs has revolted.

T Raja Singh, firebrand MlA from Goshamahal constituency has announced formation of a new party to contest the civic polls. Raja Singh, a controversial figure and a zealot is quite popular among some of the Hindutva groups and fringe elements for his firebrand politics and anti minority outbursts.

Raja Singh’s move has come close on the heel of his open attack on the party leadership specially the state president G Kishan Reddy.

Raja Singh was angry with Kishan Reddy for remaining silent on the beef issue and had demanded his dismissal from leadership. He had also threatened to field his own candidates in GHMC elections if his supporters were ignored by the leadership.

The state BJP leadership had recently urged party president Amit Shah to suspend him from the party but it was decided to keep the matter in abeyance till the elections were over.

Raja Singh said that apart from contesting the GHMC polls he will also field the candidate for the Mayoral elections.

Raja Singh who was earlier in Telugu Desam party faces criminal cases in many city police stations including two cases of assault on policemen.
