Newly elected Delhi Mayor Raja Iqbal Singh chaired a meeting with Deputy Mayor Jai Bhagwan Yadav and senior councillors on Wednesday to discuss pressing issues affecting parks across the city to ensure better maintenance and safety of public parks.

The meeting, held at the Mayor’s office, focused on a range of problems that have been impacting the quality and accessibility of MCD parks.

Among the key issues discussed were broken boundary walls, deteriorated pathways, inadequate lighting, accumulation of dry leaves, shortage of gardeners, delays in receiving pruning permissions from the Forest Department, and the poor condition of water pumps essential for maintaining park greenery.

“The maintenance of our parks is a matter of public concern, and we are committed to resolving these issues on a priority basis,” said the Mayor Raja Iqbal Singh. “Parks are essential spaces for recreation, health, and community engagement. It is our duty to ensure that they remain clean, green, and safe for all citizens.”

The Mayor directed the officials to initiate prompt action plans to repair infrastructure and enhance regular upkeep.

Emphasis was also placed on coordinating with the Forest Department to expedite permissions related to tree pruning, which is essential for plant health and public safety.

The Mayor concluded the meeting with a strong message that parks are vital public assets and must be maintained without delay to prevent inconvenience to residents and to promote environmental and physical well-being in the community.
