Raj Thackeray unhappy with location of the memorial

MNS chief and late Balasaheb’s nephew Raj Thackeray on Tuesday opposed the Devendra Fadnavis dispensation’s move to locate the late Sena chief’s memorial at Mumbai Mayor’s bungalow, saying that the decision was borne out of the Sena’s “selfish and personal interests.”

Interacting with the media at hurriedly called news conference, Raj said “They (referring to Shiv Sena) had been eyeing the Mayor’s bungalow for a long time. They only want the bungalow in the name of Balasaheb. We cannot let this happen because selfish and personal interests are responsible for the decision”.

“I am not at all opposed to setting up of a memorial for late Balasaheb. But, I am opposed to the State Government setting up the memorial at Mayor’s bungalow. First, it is the official residence of the first citizen of Mumbai. Secondly, the place is not adequate for erecting a memorial for late Sena chief. In Mumbai ministers get place for their bungalows. Can’t the State Government find a suitable place for late Balasaheb’s memorialIJ,” Raj wondered.

“When you can find a place for (Dr BR Ambedkar) Ambedkar’s memorial, can’t one place be found for BalasahebIJ There are other huge plots vacant in the vicinity where a huge memorial befitting Balasaheb’s personality can be built,” the MNS chief said.
