Widespread rains continued for the second day on Friday over many parts of Telangana under the influence of low pressure over West Central Bay of Bengal.Meteorological Centre at Hyderabad said that more rains were likely to come, especially in the northern parts of Telangana over the next three days.
Many parts of Khammam, Nalgonda, Mahbubnagar and almost entire north Telangana were receiving copious rains since Thursday.Bomraspet in Mehbubnagar district and Pinapaka in Khammam district recorded 3 cms rainfall during the last 24 hours. Parts of Warangal, Adilabad, Nizamabad, Ranga Reddy and the State Capital Hyderabad also received good rains for the last two days.
In Hyderabad, traffic was thrown out of gear as city and surrounding areas were lashed by heavy rains for the second consecutive day on Friday.  As the rain waters clogged many important roads and junctions, the motorists faced a lot of hardship as traffic was jammed for several kms on Friday.
Water also entered the houses in many low lying areas. Rains also lashed Shamshabad, Adibatla and Ibrahimpatnam and many other areas of Ranga Reddy district. The rains have brought some cheers to the people of Telangana who were facing serious water shortages as the total failure of Monsoon this year. There had been hardly any major rain fall so far this year resulting in a sharp decline in the level of water in all the rivers and reservoirs. Himayat Sagar, Osman Sagar and Singur, all the major source of drinking water for Hyderabad had dried to the bone. The officials said that present spell of rains was too little and too late to fill these reservoirs.
“Only heavy to very heavy rainfall over a long stretch of time can bring water in to these reservoirs,” a senior official of Hyderabad Water Supply Board said.
