'Rahul's take on PM's foreign trips childish'

The Centre on Monday termed as “frivolous” and “childish” Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi’s attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s foreign trips. While HRD Minister Smriti Irani said that since Rahul failed to do anything for his parliamentary constituency in 10 years, he is attacking the PM to draw attention, MoS Jitendra Singh came up with a sharp retort, asking the Congress leader where was he during his recent 56-day sabbatical.

“Rahul did nothing in his constituency (Amethi) which sent him thrice to the lok Sabha. He can only attack the PM to draw attention,” Irani, who had contested against Rahul from Amethi in the general elections last year, said. She will be visiting Amethi on May 26 again, this time to mark the one-year celebrations of the NDA Government. Irani had visited the constituency even last week.  Taking a dig at the Prime Minister during his Amethi tour, Rahul stated that after his (Modi) tours abroad, he should spend time with farmers of the country.

"It is very frivolous and very childish. And all of us, every Indian, should be proud of Prime Minister's visit abroad. The Prime Minister has gone abroad in order to discharge very important national duty and the manner in which he has been received there, the kind of enthusiastic response he has received, should make each one of us proud," Singh said.

"On the contrary you should ask the leader making such allegations that at least we are aware where our Prime Minister is and we proudly say today he is in South Korea. But we were not aware of this gentleman where he was," Singh said on the sidelines of a function.
