'Rahul's emotional speech reflects Cong's frustration'

The BJP on Thursday said Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi’s claims that he may be killed like his father and grandmother and his attack on BJP were only a reflection of the ruling party’s “despair and frustration”.

It claimed such statements were an attempt to gain sympathy by talking about past issues and establishes the fact that the Congress has no answer to the challenges before the country.

“The Congress vice-president’s speech on Wednesday at Churu is a reflection of the party’s despair and frustration. They are not able to digest the growing popularity of Narendra Modi. So, they are trying to spread misinformation,” former BJP chief M Venkaiah Naidu told reporters. The BJP also criticised the UPA for reviving the “divisive” Communal Violence Bill and claimed the Congress had gone back to its policy of ‘divide and rule’ as it was wary of the upsurge in favour of Modi.

Naidu claimed reports by the Ranganath Mishra and Rajendra Sachar Committee have established that the minority community has not progressed under Congress rule and it has always treated them as a ‘vote bank’.

“The latest attempt of the Congress to bring the Prevention of Communal and Targeted Violence Bill is aimed at getting at least minorities on their side which is definitely going to boomerang on them,” Naidu told reporters in Hyderabad.

Naidu claimed that utterances by Congress leaders, including Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, were aimed at not improving the conditions of the minorities but to temporarily sway them towards the Congress. “It makes very clear that the Congress wants ghettoisation not integration. Is it the way to bring unity in the countryIJ” he asked.

Naidu claimed the maximum numbers of communal riots have taken place in Congress’ ruled States and during Congress’ regime at the Centre.
