In a strategic move, scion of Nehru-Gandhi family Rahul Gandhi, will soon interact with salt pan workers in Kharaghoda in Suredranagar district, located in the little Rann of Kutch before his public meeting on Tuesday afternoon at Balasinor in Central Gujarat.
Interestingly, Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) Gujarat convener Sukhdev Patel through his NGO — Ganatar — has been active in the area for a long time. Sources in the Gujarat Congress said that the All India Congress Committee (AICC) vice-president would meet nearly 400 salt pan workers to understand their issues.
Gujarat Congress spokesman Manish Doshi said that leader of Opposition in the Gujarat Assembly Shankersinh Vaghela, who has been given lok Sabha ticket, would accompany Rahul Gandhi during the meeting. “People in Kharaghoda are reeling under acute water shortage. Education and employment to the children of salt pan workers are some of the burning issues in that area,” said Doshi.
Sources in Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) said that Gandhi’s visit to meet salt pan workers is likely to have great impact on Surendranagar lok Sabha constituency, who already favour the Congress.
