Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee President Ajay Rai reiterated here on Tuesday that Rahul Gandhi would contest the 2024 Lok Sabha elections from Amethi constituency.
Addressing a news conference during his visit to the city, Rai said: “They (Gandhis) have been working for the people of Amethi for generations. Rahul ji will definitely contest from Amethi”.
It may be recalled that Smriti Irani of the BJP had defeated Rahul Gandhi in Amethi constituency during the 2019 Lok Sabha by a margin of 55,120 votes.
However, Gandhi — who had also contested from Wayanad Lok Sabha constituency in Kerala — won and became an MP in 2019.
Tuesday was the second occasion when Rai spoke about Gandhi contesting the 2024 Lok Sabha polls from Amethi constituency. He had made a similar statement in Lucknow in August this year.
