Rahul, Priyanka face ire in Amethi, Bareli

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and star campaigner Priyanka Vadera, who focussed on beefing up the party ignoring masses of Amethi and Rae Bareli in their last visits, had to face public ire. Hundreds of Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) agitators protested outside Munshiganj guest house on Wednesday.

The irked crowd, led by district chief Rita Singh, raised the issues of erractic power supply and later handed a memorandum to Gandhi’s representative Chandrakant Dubey.

The protesters claimed that except for Amethi town the other areas were getting only six to eight hours of power daily. They claimed that most of the areas in Rahul’s constituency were going without power due to fault in the supply line.

Interestingly, neither Rahul nor Priyanka turned up to listen to their grievances and instead sent emissary to accept the memorandum. Besides BKU activists, many other visitors who came with their problems failed to meet the leaders and were forced to hand it over to the emissary for further action.

Meanwhile, Rahul and his sister completed the interview process for selecting office- bearers in 19 blocks of Amethi district Congress. Priyanka returned to New Delhi by an evening flight. Rahul has stayed back and will return to New Delhi on Thursday.

Rahul and Priyanka were closeted with district Congress leaders for two days at Munshiganj Guest House to select candidates for Block and district level party wings. He warned them on infighting,  which had adversely affected the prospect of candidates in last Assembly polls. Rahul is slated to visit the residence of former Congress MlA Ram Sevek Dhobi at Jagdishpur to express his condolence on the death of his wife.
