Congress raised objection over serious security lapses during Rahul Gandhi’s function at Salon in Raebareli on Tuesday.

“lapses in security during Rahul Gandhi’s function in Salon where he went to flag-off two trains besides laying foundation for new railway line on Tuesday is a matter of concern and shows apathy of the State Government towards safety and security of Congress vice-president,” alleged spokesman of the Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee Maroof Khan.

Criticising Government for not forwarding adequate force or even instruments for proper frisking and search, the Congress spokesman said that it showed that how the Government is taking Rahul’s security very causally even when he not just enjoyed Special Protection Group (SPG) security cover but also faces threat to his life by terror groups who had already got eliminated his father Rajeev Gandhi and grandmother Indira Gandhi.

“The security personnel deployed at entry points for frisking were not even having Hand-held Metal Detectors (HHMD) and during staff shortage they even failed to check everyone manually facilitating many people to walk inside with bags and other belongings”, pointed Maroof Khan adding that this laxity only exposed Congress leader to any kind of threat.

The party also alleged that on one hand, the State Government is taking Rahul’s security very lightly and on the other hand the entire machinery is working overnight not just to provide fullproof security to BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi but were also forwarding all help to make his rallies successful. “Just watch the number of senior officers and security personnel deployed for Narendra Modi’s rally at Kanpur, Jhansi, Bahraich and Agra and than compared it with the security given during Rahul’s function”, claimed Congress spokesman while alleging that it will show that how SP Government is taking all kind of interest in Modi’s rally.

Maroof Khan further charged that that these double standards in providing security cover only vindicated Congress’s claim that both Samajwadi Party and Bharatiya Janata Party are having a secret pact. He claimed that recent communal riots in Western UP also pointed towards the SP-BJP’s joint agenda of fueling communal tension and later trying to gain out of it during next Parliament elections after polarising voters.
