Rahul: NDA only wants to empower PM Modi

Hitting out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi said that the UPA Government wanted to give power to the poor but the NDA wants to empower only the Prime Minister.

“The Prime Minister has a different style of functioning. He works like a autocrat and wants to have complete power in his hands. He believes he can rule and supervise the work while sitting in Delhi,” Gandhi said at a function organised to mark the 10th anniversary of Indira Gandhi Eye Hospital in Munshiganj area in Amethi on Thursday.

“On the other hand, the Congress Government believed in giving power to the people. Therefore, our Government had launched schemes like MNREGA, Right to Education and Food Security Bills. We wanted to empower poor people – the aam aadmi – who is deprived of the benefits of Government schemes,” Gandhi, who was on two-day visit to his parliamentary constituency, said.

He even raised questions about the Adarsh Gram Yojana started by the NDA Government. “The MPs have been asked to adopt one village. Now what’s about other villages in that constituency. Is the MP not responsible to develop those villages too,” he asked.

To elaborate his point Gandhi said he has adopted Jagdishpur but his constituency has over 700 villages. “I think all these villages should be developed equally and each should be made a model village,” he said.
