'Rahul misleading House over Amethi food park'

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, who has been taking on the Government on a number of issues,  came under sharp attack in the lok Sabha on Friday  with the Government accusing him of “playing politics of deception” and “misleading” the House over the mega food park project in his constituency Amethi and BJP MP Kirit Somiaya moving a privilege motion against him on that count.

“The project was cancelled on July 11, 2014.....Were you sleeping for 10 monthsIJ It is you who want to resort to politics of revenge,” Food Processing Minister Harsimrat Kaur said, drawing applause from the treasury benches and loud protests from the Congress members who trooped into the Well of the House. Accusing Rahul of “not doing his home work” and playing “politics of deception” on the issue, she sought to ridicule the Congress leader for raising the problem of the potato-growers after returning from a foreign jaunt.

Rahul had on Thursday  attacked the Government in the House for allegedly scrapping the food park and accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of practicing politics of revenge and not “politics of change” which he had promised. The issue of Rahul’s allegation was raised during the Zero Hour by BJP member Kirit Somaiya, who said he had given a notice for privilege motion against the Congress vice-president for allegedly misleading the House on the food park issue.

Somaiya said the Congress leader was “misleading the nation and misleading people of the country” in the matter. The BJP MP said Rahul had “lied about Amethi Food Park”, “twisted facts” and “tried to blame the Prime Minister and the NDA Government” for cancellation of the park.
