AICC vice-president Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday countered Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s development card by saying that peace is the prerequisite for any development and it is the Congress Government in Assam, who has brought the much needed peace to the troubled State in last 15 years.
The AICC leader addressed three back-to-back public rallies in Assam on Tuesday — one at Diphu in Central Assam’s Karbi Anglong district and two others at Karimganj and Sonai in Barak Valley to woo the voters ahead of the Assembly polls early next month. While Rahul Gandhi has addressed three rallies on Tuesday, AICC president Sonia Gandhi is expected to address another two rallies in poll bound Assam on Wednesday.
The Congress had undertaken massive good works in Assam in the last 15 years including establishing medical colleges and engineering colleges and creating job opportunities for the youth. However, the biggest achievement of the Congress Government in Assam in last 15 years is that it has brought back peace to the State, which was disturbed and troubled 15 years back,” he said while reminding the people about the situation in Assam 15 years back.
“Prime Minister is only good at making lofty promises but he never fulfills them. Modiji comes, makes lofty promises and then leaves. Modiji came to Assam before lok Sabha polls and made promises. However, his promises made then are yet to be fulfilled,” he said.
Attacking the Prime Minister and the BJP Government at the Centre, Gandhi said that Modiji did not tell you that on Budget day, Arun Jaitley brought a new law which says that all the thieves and Gundas in the country can turn their black money into white by paying some meager tax.
“Modiji also did not tell you that one of his Minister met Vijay Mallya and after that Mallya fled the country packing his six suitcases. Modiji had also not told you that lalit Modi, who has thousands of crores of black money, also fled the country and no effort was made by the Government to bring him back,” Gandhi said.
“The BJP always want to make people fight against each other. When there was a Congress Government in Haryana, it was completely peaceful. However, a month after a BJP Government came to power in Haryana, violence started. They did it in Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh everywhere,” he said adding that the BJP wants to do the same thing in Assam by creating violence.
“The BJP and RSS want to impose one uniform ideology across the country. But tell me if one ideology is imposed everywhere, what will happen to your language, culture, religion, tradition etcIJ If BJP comes to power in Assam, Assam will not be administered from Assam but from Nagpur or from the Prime Ministers’ Office (PMO),” he said
“People of different religion and culture have been living in Assam peacefully since hundreds of years. But the BJP and RSS people does not want this, they want to take away brotherhood and harmony among these people and create violence,” he said adding that the Congress would not let this happen at any cost.
Gandhi also assured to give a package of Rs. 1,000 crore to Karbi Anglong and set up one medical college and one engineering college in the hill district if the Congress is voted to power.
