Rahul calls Cong CMs to discuss strategies

While the Congress has already taken up the task of organisational restructuring, the party is now looking forward to develop a strong strategy in the run up to General Elections 2014. Before the important AICC session on January 17, 2014, Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi has called Chief Ministers of party-ruled States this week to address the main challenges like price rise and corruption.

AICC General Secretary Janardan Dwivedi said that the purpose of December 27 meeting of leaders of 12 Congress-ruled States is to discuss the future course in the wake of the passage of lokpal and lokayukta Bill and also discuss the food security issue. Besides the CMs, Finance Minister P Chidambaram, Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde, State unit presidents and AICC general secretary incharge of States would be present.

On a question whether the AICC session next month would anoint Rahul as party’s PM candidate, Dwivedi said he is the future leader of the Congress. “As the issue of leadership is concerned, we have been maintaining that Congress president (Sonia Gandhi) is there. The whole country and the party knows that it is Rahul who comes after the Congress president in the party”.

He added that, “As far as the prime ministerial candidate is concerned, it has to be decided by him (Rahul), the Congress president and party leaders after due deliberations.”
