Ahab Ibrahim (21), son of Poopparambil Ibrahim of Chalakkudy, Thrissur and second-year architecture-engineering student of the Acharya Institute of Technology, Bangalore was subjected to brutal ragging by six senior students including those from Kerala at the college hostel in January.

After a few days, Ahab fell unconscious in the hostel bathroom and was rushed to a private hospital in Bangalore where it was revealed that he had suffered deep wounds in the head inflicted probably with hockey sticks. It was also found that there was fatal blood clotting in the Ahab’s head.

The details of ragging came out when the students at the hostel were questioned. It is said that the senior students had brutally attacked Ahab as an act of revenge for reporting to the authorities about how they had compelled him to use drugs. As it was found that the stay at the Bangalore hospital was unsafe, he was moved to a hospital in Chalakkudy and later to Kochi.

Ahab had been in coma for the over 40 days. It is also said that though Ahab’s parents had complained to the college authorities and the Bangalore police about the incident, no case had been registered.
