The Congress was gearing up to extend a rousing reception to the party vice-president Rahul Gandhi who will arrive here on Thursday afternoon on a mission to rejuvenate the moribund party by undertaking a walkathon to console the kin of farmers hit by suicides in Telangana.
Rahul will land here at 4 pm on Thursday and will first interact with the students of Osmania University who were agitating against the failure of the TRS Government in fulfilling the promise of employment.
later, he will leave for Nirmal town in Adilabad district for night halt. On the way, he will also interact with the groups of farmers at different places including Toopran, Armoor and Balakonda.
Next day, he will start his 15 km long padyatra form Vadiyala village and will spend at least 10 minutes with each family in five villages whose member had committed suicide.
The working president of Telangana Congress Committee, Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, said, “Rahul Gandhi is here on a mission to restore confidence among the farmers hit by agrarian crisis.” He alleged that more than 900 farmers had committed suicide since the formation of Telangana State and TRS Government in June last year.
After addressing a public meeting on Friday afternoon, Rahul will return to Hyderabad and then fly back to New Delhi.
The Congress is trying its best to turn Rahul’s visit into a show of strength by bringing in 20,000 party workers to Adilabad for the padyatra.
