Punjab Congress gets four new vice-presidents!

Published on:

In view of the continued infighting in Punjab Congress despite replacement of Amarinder Singh as Pradesh Congress president by Gurdaspur MP Pratap Singh Bajwa, the party on Tuesday tried to satisfy all sections by appointing four vice presidents to represent various regions, sections and factions of the State.

Congress president Sonia Gandhi has appointed Tarlochan Singh, OP Soni, Gurdeep Singh Kangar and Charanjit Singh Channi as the vice presidents in Punjab Congress, AICC General Secretary Janardan Dwivedi said in a statement.

Gurdeep Singh Kangar, a Jat Sikh and supporter of Bajwa, has been given responsibility of the Malwa region while Tarlochan Singh, an MlA belonging to Scheduled Caste, has been given the responsibility of Doaba region. Soni, a Hindu belonging to

Amrinder Singh faction but now close to Information and Broadcasting Minister Manish Tewari, has been given responsibility of Majha region.

Charanjit Singh Channi, who is a new entry to the Congress fold, has also been given responsibility of Malwa region.

The Congress, which lost the Assembly elections in the state due to factionalism and infighting, wants to revive the party for which these appointments have been made.

But how far these new appointments would satisfy all sections and arrest the decline of party’s fortune in the state would be decided by future.
