Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal on Sunday said that all promises made by his Government to the family of Sarabjit Singh — who attained martyrdom after a brutal assault in Pakistan jail — would be fulfilled, as it was its “bounden duty” to help his family.
“Sarabjit is a national martyr as he had suffered endless agonies in the Pakistani jail for being an Indian,” Parkash Singh Badal told mediapersons at the residence of Dasuya MlA Sukhjeet Kaur Sahi.
“By lending a helping hand to Sarabjit’s family, the State Government has fulfilled its moral duty as it is a basic responsibility of every Government to respect the heroes who had laid down there life for the national cause,” said Badal.
He added, “Each and every promise made by the State Government with the family would be fulfilled for which he had already passed on the directions to the officers.”
49-year-old Sarabjit had received fatal injuries in Kot lakhpat Rai Jail, in lahore on April 26 when he was brutally assaulted by fellow prisoners with bricks and sharp-edged things.
