Anti-drug activist Parvinder Singh, popularly known as Jhota, was shot dead in Punjab’s Mansa district on Tuesday while confronting a medical store owner over the alleged sale of addictive drugs, police said.

According to police, Singh was questioning the owner about selling certain drugs to a man and recording their exchange on his mobile phone when the shooting took place.

A video of the incident captures Singh saying that the medical store owner had taken out a pistol. The owner allegedly opened fire at the activist, with the shooting recorded on the phone.

Singh was taken to a hospital but succumbed to his injuries, police said.

He had previously highlighted the alleged illegal sale of addictive drugs at several chemist shops in Mansa.  (with inputs from PTI)
