Protests continue over Govt inaction in Bangalore rape
Published on:

The day after Bangalore witnessed massive protests by the parents over alleged rape of a six-year-old first standard school girl in an upmarket school, protests continued on Sunday demanding justice.

Politics has taken over the issue and BJP Minority Morcha and other women’s organisations have organised protests over inaction of the Government.

Chand Pasha, State Secretary of BJP Minority Morcha criticised the Congress Government for the failure of law and order in the State and demanded Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah's resignation.

Pasha said, “We are protesting against the rising crime in Bangalore. Till now such an incident has never happened. The CM is sleeping in the Assembly. The Government is not concerned about the safety of women. Since the Congress has come to power in the State, there is a complete failure of law and order. The Government should resign. We want peace and good behaviour towards females.”

In another protest, All India Progressive Women's Association (AIPWA) demanded quick action by the police against the accused and came down on Government's apathy in handling the case. AIPWA Secretary Kavita Krishnan criticised Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah for being silent over the rape case of a minor in Bangalore's school.

However Bangalore Police Commissioner Raghavendra Aurdhkar denied any inaction and assured that thorough investigation will be done in the case. He also assured the protesters that the culprits will be brought to book in just a day or two. Meanwhile, Bangalore Police detained eight staff members of the school and questioned nearly 90 people in the case.

The police, however, said that it will need at least a day or two to make a major headway in the case. "The CCTVs in place are very old and the footage cannot be downloaded. We have to gather information from various sources. There was a lot of delay in occurrence and reporting of the case. Give us a day or two and we will bring the culprit to book," Bangalore Police Commissioner Raghavendra Auradkar said.

Congress High Command seeks report over series of rape incidents The series of rape incidents in the information technology city Bangalore shook the entire nation and put the otherwise calm and cosmopolitan Bangalore into shame.

The ruling Congress government led by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has come under severe criticism over its apathy over handling the situation.   Even though it is late the state government has asked the police to invoke goonda act and asked the police to bring the culprits to book.

Meanwhile a source in the Congress told The Pioneer that Congress President Sonia Gandhi  has expressed displeasure over series of rape incidents in Bangalore and also was upset with Siddaramiah government handling of the cases. It is learnt that Sonia Gandhi had asked Karnataka in charge Digvijay Singh to seek a report over the incidents. eom/blr
