Protesting TDP MP faints, RS adjourned

Published on:

TDP member CM Ramesh, who has been protesting in the Rajya Sabha for the past four days against division of Andhra Pradesh, fainted in the House on Thursday.

Ramesh (47) fell down at around 2.50 pm while he was holding a placard as a protest along with his party colleague YS Chowdary. Deputy Chairman PJ Kurien immediately adjourned the House for 10 minutes.

Members from both Treasury Benches as well as Opposition parties rushed to help Ramesh. Some members sprinkled water on his face while others tried to help him stand up. Soon after, he was taken to Ram Manohar lohia Hospital as doctors, who carried out initial check-up inside Parliament, advised him to consult a neurologist.

But Chowdary continued to protest when the House reassembled so leader of Opposition Arun Jaitley asked the Government to list the Telangana issue for clarification on Monday which was accepted by the Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Rajiv Shukla. However, Chowdary refused to go back to his seat and instead sat in the well of the House to continue his protest.
