Protest against AAP leader's offensive joke on Kerala nurses

Published on:

Kerala-based United Nurses’ Association on Monday decided to take legal action against Aam Aadmi Party leader Kumar Vishwas for the allegedly offensive remarks he had made against nurses from Kerala even as the State committee office of the AAP came under attack from Youth Congress workers.

Stating that the association would initiate legal proceedings against Vishwas, its president Jasmine Shaw said that they would write an open letter to AAP leader and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal over the matter. Jasmine wanted to know whether the AAP leadership shared the view of Vishwas on Malayalee nurses.

Vishwas drew flak even from noted novelist Sarah Joseph who had joined the AAP just a week ago. “That statement is condemnable as it is against femininity,” said Sarah Joseph. Many other distinguished personalities also condemned Vishwas’s anti-Malayalee statement. The fresh controversy surrounding Vishwas originated in the remarks he made – as per a video clipping spreading through the Internet – about Malayalee nurses while participating in a poetry conference in Ranchi in 2008.
