Pro-Didi painter arrest imminent, ED awaits reply

With pro-Mamata painter Suvaprasanna Bhattac-harya literally going underground, the Enforcement Directorate now investigating the Saradha chit fund scam was planning to send yet another notice of appearance to him demanding personal appearance, sources said.

The painter failed to appear before the ED and was not answering calls, said sources, adding he was being given a strong letter and if he failed to appear this time he could be arrested.

The famed artist was one of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s civil society commanders who gave call for Poriborton (change) in Singyr-Nandigram days leading anti-Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee rallies.

Alleged to have played a crucial role in the multi-crore chit fund dealings, the artist had earlier been asked to furnish details on the stated deals between his media company and its several subsidiaries and that of jailed Saradha boss Sudipto Sen.

“Though he submitted some documents earlier they are not enough and have many discrepancies and need to be explained” ED sources said wondering how his loss-making company was purchased by Sen for a price many more times of the market value.

“We are not ruling out money-laundering angle” an official said adding Suvaprasanna sent his chartered accountant instead of appearing personally despite repeated reminders to appear in person.
