In what is being alleged as a travesty of justice, Sunil Bhaskar, the philosophical principal of Gurudeva College of Advanced Studies at Kozhikode has been listed as a first accused in a FIR filed by Kerala Police for attacking and assaulting students of the SFI, the CPI(M)’s youth brigade.
The SFI area secretary of Koilandy near Kozhikode where the college is located is going around accusing that the principal assaulted him and he was grievously injured in the attack.
The incident took place on Monday, the opening day of the four-year degree courses in the college. The SFI, which literally controls the college campus wanted to open a help desk in front of the principal’s office which was objected to by the later.
The enraged SFI leaders barged into the principal’s room and assaulted him. But the version given by the SFI leaders was that the principal assaulted the students numbering more than 60.
The police visited the college on Saturday and informed the principal that he has committed a crime for which he could be sentenced to three years and asked him to be present in the police station whenever asked for by the latter.

While speaking to the media, he was at pains to explain about the indifference of the cops towards the threat issued by the SFI to him and said he would approach the High Court of Kerala for justice. Meanwhile former minister abd CPI(M) central committee member A K Balan told media persons that SFI was the most fantastic student wing in the world and these are attempts by the imperialist-communalist- capitalist forces to destroy the revolutionary student movement.
Binoy Viswam, a poet, novelist, thinker and secretary of the Kerala CPI warned the people of the State that the day was not far when the SFI would become a liability to the secular-socialist-democratic forces.
Balan charged that Binoy Viswam was ignorant about the influence wielded by the SFI all over the student community. “It is persons like me which made the SFI what it is today,” said Balan.
