Zafarul Islam, the prime accused in the murder of a BJP worker at Ilam Bazar in Birbhum a few days ago, was seen moving around with senior Trinamool Congress leaders like Anubrata Mandal and party MP Subrato Bakshi right in front of the police.
When contacted Islam said he had been framed by the BJP in the case. A BJP supporter was allegedly murdered by the Trinamool men. However, the local police said it was the result of a “property-related dispute”.
Bakshi also said that the “law would take its own course” adding prima facie the police had found that the incident had nothing to do with politics.
like the left, the BJP had also been at the receiving end of the Trinamool attacks throughout the State. Attacks had been mounted from Coochbehar in North Bengal to Birbhum to North and South 24 Parganas, Hooghly and West Midnapore, party leadership alleged.
A central BJP team had recently visited the attack site at Sandeshkhali in North 24 Parganas where the Trinamool had resorted to indiscriminate firing injuring 22 party men.
Reacting to the Trinamool-sponsored political violence party, central observer for Bengal Siddharthnath Singh had on Sunday said, “instead of being happy by winning 34 seats in the lok Sabha elections Mamata Banerjee was getting nervous” because she knew that her party had secured at least 10 per cent extra votes by rigging.
Incidentally the RSS had on Sunday given an ultimatum to the Trinamool asking it to reign in its armed gangs or face retaliation. The RSS leaders said this at a meeting in South 24 Parganas.
State Governor MK Narayanan, who had earlier met the State BJP leadership on the issue, had reportedly briefed Prime Minister Narendra Modi last week about the state of affairs in the State sources have said.
