President Pranab Mukherjee will confer the Sangeet Natak Akademi Fellowships and Awards for 2012 on May 28, in Rashtrapati Bhavan here. A festival of Music, dance and drama will be held at Meghdoot Theatre Complex and Sri Ram Centre from May 29 to June 7, where the fellows and awardees will be performing.
The three Fellowships this year, will be conferred on N Rajam, TH Vikku Vinayakram and Ratan Thiyam.
As far as Awards are concerned, nine artists will be honoured in the field of music, eight in the field of dance, eight in theatre and eight in the field of traditional, folk and tribal dance, music, theatre and puppetry.
Nandini Ramani and Arun Mahadev Kakade will be honoured with the Sangeet Natak Akademi Awards for Overall Contribution in Performing Arts.
The Sangeet Natak Akademi Fellowships (Akademi Ratna) and Awards (Akademi Puraskar) are national honours bestowed by the Republic of India on artists, teachers or scholars in the field of performing arts. The recipients are selected by the Akademi General Council.
