Prez Rule in Arunachal against Constitution: Gogoi

Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Monday termed the Union Cabinet’s decision to impose Presidents’ Rule in Arunachal Pradesh as against the provisions of Constitution of India and said that BJP is trying their best to destabilise the northeast region.

“There is no law and order situation in Arunachal Pradesh. Besides, the matter is already sub judice. The Supreme Court had already referred the matter to a Constitution Bench and hearing is on. They should have waited for the next hearing of the Supreme Court,” said Gogoi while addressing a Press conference on Monday at his residence.

Attacking the BJP led Government at the Centre, Gogoi further said that the BJP has been trying to destabilise the entire northeastern States. “I have not heard of any law and order problem in Assam since the political crisis has started. So it is not justified to recommend the Presidents’ Rule in the State,” he said while adding that this is also against the spirits of democracy and cooperative federalism.

Reiterating that there is no need for President’s Rule in Arunachal Pradesh, Gogoi said that the BJP leaders are behaving like RSS Pracharaks and the Central Government is following a dictatorial style of functioning. “Governors of Assam, Tripura and Arunachal Pradesh are acting like agents of RSS, they are working like Pracharaks of RSS. This is unfortunate and it is for this that the President of India had to remind the Governors recently that they should work within the framework of the Constitution,” said Gogoi.

Gogoi also slammed Prime Minister Narendra Modi and said that there is no Prime Minister in the past who had criticized his predecessor so blatantly. “The way Modi criticized former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh during a recent rally in Assam is uncalled for,” Gogoi said.

“Modi stated that the Governments in northeast are corrupt. If it is so why don’t they catch them thenIJ They (The BJP) have always been trying to give an impression that people and Governments in northeast are corrupt. This is an insult to the people of Assam and northeast India,” he said.
