Published on:

Ahead of the Presidential poll on July 18, the BJP has asked all its MPs to reach the national Capital by July 16 and stay here to ensure full attendance of all the lawmakers for the presidential election.

The BJP  will organise a training and demonstration session on how to cast their votes in the presidential elections, they said. The party national president J P Nadda will host a dinner meeting with all MPs of the party on July 16, sources said. The BJP-led NDA has nominated Droupadi Murmu as its presidential candidate who is certain to be elected as the first tribal president of the country.  On Friday, as part of her campaign seeking support, Murmu was in Odisha where Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik hosted lunch for her. She also met BJP MLAs from the State. Murmu then flew to Lucknow where she was received warmly by UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanatha and his Cabinet colleagues.

The Opposition  and non-NDA parties like BJD, YSR Congress, JDS and SAD (Badal) have extended their support to  Murmu.

The opposition candidate contesting against NDA nominee is former Minister in Vajpayee government Yashwant Sinha. JMM, the ruling party in Jharkhand- a tribal party- is  also considering support to Murmu but has yet not made any official announcement  to  effect.
