President Pranab Mukherjee and Chief Justice of India Justice JS Khehar on Wednesday stressed on women safety, equality and empowerment as they spoke at two separate events to mark the International Women’s Day.

“A greater emphasis on early sensitisation of children and youth in schools and institutions of higher learning would help inculcate due respect for the female gender. This should be taken up through appropriate measures in our rural and urban populations and through well-conceived and coherent Government programmes,” Mukherjee said.

Speaking at a seminar, CJI Khehar said, “There are sufficient laws and rules for woman to protect them. They don’t need more laws. However, there is a need is to change the mindset of society towards women.”
