Preity-Ness spat: Cops record actress' statement
Published on:

Amid considerable media glare, the Mumbai police on Tuesday night recorded the supplementary statement of Bollywood actress Preity Zinta at the Wankhede stadium about her much-discussed May 30  run-in with her-ex boyfriend and Kings XI Punjab co-owner Ness Wadia and also took her to the Gareware pavilion to recreate the sequence of events leading to the spat.

Two days after she returned to Mumbai from los Angeles, 39-year-old Preity —accompanied by her lawyer — set off frenzy among media persons, as she arrived at the Wankhede stadium, at 7 pm, to record her supplementary statement.Though the police had made elaborate security arrangements for her at the entrance of the stadium, she could not get out of her car for several minutes owing to the presence of a huge number of electronic and print media persons.

Before long, she was escorted past the glare of flashing camera bulbs and countless television cameras, to an appointed place inside the stadium, where a team of police officials was waiting for her to record her supplementary statement on a complaint she had registered the Marine Drive police station against Wadia, with whom she co-owns the IPl franchise Kings XI Punjab, on June 12.

The recording of supplementary statement lasted for nearly 90 minutes — during which the city police reportedly sought clarifications from her on several issues. They included the delay in her lodging a complaint with the police against Wadia, the witnesses to the incident and the circumstances leading to the incident.

In her complaint lodged with the police, Preity had alleged that Wadia grabbed her hand and abused her in full public view at the Wankhede stadium.Based on her complaint, the Marine Drive police registered an FIR against Wadia under Sections 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) of IPC.

In her complaint, she had cited three specific incidents, involving Wadia, that took place on May 30. In the first incident, Wadia allegedly quarreled with the staff of the IPl franchise, Kings XI Punjab – in the presence of the actress. The second incident happened when Preity went back to her seat at the stadium, to where Wadia followed. The third incident happened on the Wankhede stadium ground as per the actress’ complaint.
