A pregnant woman allegedly committed suicide at her in-laws’ residence in South-East Delhi’s Taimoor Nagar area on Thursday night. The family members of the deceased have alleged that she was being harassed by her in-laws for dowry. Her in-laws and her husband have been detained for questioning.
According to the police, the body of the deceased identified as Preeti was discovered by her husband, Sumit on Thursday night. Sumit saw her hanging from the ceiling fan using a dupatta. The family members alleged that she was poisoned and murdered. locals told the police that her in-laws were going to cremate her without informing anyone but one of the neighbours saw this and called up the police.
Sumit and Preeti got married three years back and Preeti was expecting. Preeti’s brother informed the police that she was stressed as their dowry demands were increasing and they had also demanded a car from them of late.
Based on his complaint a case under the appropriate sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) was registered at New Friends Colony police station. Further investigations are underway.
