Pratyusha suicide: Boyfriend moves court for bail

A day after he was booked for abetting his girlfriend and “Balika Vadhu” television serial fame Pratyusha Banerjee’s suicide, Rahul Raj Singh on Wednesday moved a suburban court for an anticipatory bail, even as the deceased television actress’ parents accused him of having “mentally and physically” tortured their daughter.

Rahul, who is currently in Shree Sai Hospital at Kandivali, filed an anticipatory bail application through his new lawyer Ashok Sarogi before the Dindoshi sessions court, which will hear the plea on Thursday.

Rahul’s anticipatory bail plea came less than 24 hours after the Bangurnagar police registered a case against him under sections 306 (abetment to suicide), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC and Pratyusha’s parents Shankar and Soma Banerjee formally lodged a FIR against him with the police.

On April 1, Pratyusha (24) was found hanging from a ceiling fan at her seventh floor flat in Harmony residency building at Goregaon in north Mumbai, She was taken by Rahul to Kokilaben Ambani Hospital, where she was declared dead on admission later that evening.

Rahul, whom the investigators see as a logical suspect in the case, has come under the intense scanner of the police for his strained love relationship with Pratyusha.

The post-mortem, conducted on Pratyusha’s body, had earlier ruled out any foul play in the actress’ alleged suicide.

The investigators, who had on Sunday attributed Pratyusha’s death to ligature marks over neck and asphyxia, caused because of hanging or strangulation, are still tight-lipped as to what prompted them to book Rahul for abetment of suicide.
