It was a day of double success for Telangana on power front. Within hours of securing deal with Chhattisgarh of buying 1,000 MW power for Telangana, Union Minister for Water Resources, Uma Bharti has also granted her nod to continuing to generate power at Srisailam hydel project.

Telangana Major Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao, after meeting Uma Bharti in New Delhi on Monday, told the media that in view of the sufferings of farmers, Telangana Government can continue to generate power at Srisailam project.

On the earlier order of the Krishna River Water Management Board, the Telangana Government had stopped the power generation from Sunday night. On this point, Uma Bharti clarified that the order was not that of the Board. She assured that the Centre will do everything possible to protect the farmers.

Harish Rao also drew her attention to the violations by the Andhra Pradesh Government in utilisation of Krishna River waters. He said without any allocation, water is being drawn for Hundri Neeva project by AP.
