A team of doctors from All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi, on Saturday examined Dayalu Ammal (82), second wife of DMK chief M Karunanidhi. The team consisting of four doctors called on Dayalu Ammal at her Gopalapuram residence in Chennai and was with her for nearly two hours.
Sources in the DMK said the team consisted of Dr AB Dey (geriatric specialist), Dr Manjari Tripathi (neurologist), and Dr Nandakumar. Dr Gopal, the personal physician of Karunanidhi was present during the examination. Dayalu Ammal’s daughter Selvi received the doctors. The examination of Dayalu Ammal by the team of doctors was as per the instruction of the Supreme Court following an appeal filed by Selvi, Dayalu Ammal’s daughter to exempt her mother from appearing before the Special CBI Court in New Delhi hearing the 2G scam trial as a witness.
Dayalu Ammal is a director of the Karunanidhi promoted Kalaignar TV. Kanimozhi, Karunanidhi’s daughter by his third wife Rajathi Ammal is an accused in the 2G spectrum scam.
