Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee once again took the Narendra Modi Government to task for its demonetisation act alleging “Notebandi” ruined the country’s economy and brought the lower classes to the brink of the precipice.
Hours after the Annual Report of the RBI confirmed that post demonetisation 99.30 percent of total cash in circulation had returned to the system deceiving the Modi Government’s black money filter mechanism the Bengal Chief Minister said she knew that the notebandi which was launched with a bang would finally end in a whimper.
She said that she knew it on November 2016 when demonetisation was announced by the Prime Minister that the exercise would hit the common people hard and ruin the middle class and the lower class in the final run. “Where is the black money,” that they had been looking for, she asked.
The Chief Minister had led a country-wide campaign against demonetisation which finally saw more than Rs 15 lakh crore filtering back into the system and managed to trap only about Rs 10,000 crore.
Banerjee had earlier vowed to throw the BJP out of power in 2019 by activating the Federal Front, a conglomerate of all the like-minded secular parties.
Meanwhile even as the Trinamool-BJP war reached the judicial precincts a Kolkata court on Wednesday issued summons to BJP president Amit Shah asking him to appear before it on September 28 to respond to the charges leveled against him by Trinamool MP and Chief Minister’s nephew Abhishek Banerjee.
The junior Banerjee had slapped a libel suit against Shah for using unparliamentarily languages against him from a public rally in Kolkata.
Shah from an August 11 BJP rally in Kolkata attacked the TMC MP bringing corruption charges against him. Banerjee had demanded immediate apology failing which he slapped a libel suit against the BJP president at Bankshall Court in Kolkata.
The Court on Wednesday directed Shah to appear before it personally or through a representative, sources said.
