The ‘Modi tsunami’ may have swept all over the country and likely to uproot non-BJP Governments in several States, chances are bleak that the JMM-led Government in Jharkhand would not meet similar fate. Indications are that the strong pro-BJP mood has unified the parties on the other side and they just do not want to face the election challenge well in advance.
This is the reason behind the Trinamool Congress softening its stand on pulling out from the Hemant Soren Government. Though its two members extending most crucial support to the government is slated to meet TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee later this week in Kolkata it is believed that the party would continue with its backing.
“It is well known that the Government is banking on the two MlAs of the TMC but it is not sure whether the disgruntled MlA from other parties would not extend support when it is required. We also have to think how the decision is going to benefit us,” said Bandhu Tirkey.
It is learnt that leaders of the party have sent sufficient feelers to high command in Kolkata against resorting to any such misadventure that would clearly benefit the BJP and give nothing in return to the party. “Sentiment in the favour of the BJP can clearly be felt at the moment. What will happen if elections take place nowIJ Is it going to help us in any wayIJ Instead we need time to build the party at grassroots so that we can present a fight in the Assembly elections,” said a TMC leader.
The much needed breather for Hemant got additional dose of oxygen from the Congress. The party, shivering under the recent jolt it received in Jharkhand when it got completely wiped out and conceded the only seat it had in the lS to the BJP, is in no mood to prepone the inevitable. When the JMM, unlike the Congress, has saved its face by maintaining two seats from the State.
