Cong candidate from Rai wins by 3 votes
Chandigarh: Ruling Congress' sitting MlA from Rai Assembly segment in Sonepat district, Jai Tirath Dahiya won by a thin margin of three votes defeating his nearest rival of the Indian National lok Dal. As per the result declared by the Election Department, 62-year-old Jai Tirath polled 36,703 votes as against his 68-year-old INlD rival Inderjeet Dahiya's 36,700. BJP candidate Krishna Gahlawat got 34,523 votes and finished at third position. A total of 15 candidates had entered the fray from the Rai constituency. Among those who were in fray included candidates from the Haryana Janhit Congress (Bl) and BSP, besides the Independents.
India's richest woman loses
Chandigarh: India's richest woman Savitri Jindal, mother of business magnate and Congress leader Naveen Jindal, lost to BJP's Dr Kamal Gupta by 13,646 votes from Hisar. She is a Minister in the outgoing Bhupinder Singh Hooda Government. She is the non-executive chairperson of OP Jindal Group that has interests in the steel, power and mining sectors. She was named India's richest woman by Forbes.
Sushma Swaraj's sister loses
BJP's Vandana Sharma, younger sister of External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, loses to Jasbir Deswal, an Independent candidate, by a margin of 1,422 votes from Safidon seat. INlD candidate Kali Ram Patwari, who reached third position and Congress candidate Bachan Singh Arya bagged more than 25000 votes each. Winner Deshwal got 29,569 votes.
Chautala's grandson loses
While INlD supremo Om Prakash Chautala's son and daughter-in-law won the election, his grandson lost the election. INlD leader Abhay Singh Chautala defeated Pawan Beniwal of BJP by 11,539 votes from Ellenabad constituency. Naina Singh Chautala, wife of party's senior leaderAjay Singh Chautala, defeated Dr K V Singh of Congress by 8,545 votes from Dabwali seat. But her son Dushyant Chautala, Hisar MP was defeated by Prem lata Singh of BJP, wife of senior saffron party leader Birender Singh, by 7,480 votes from Uchana Kalan seat. Dushyan't father Ajay Singh Chautala is also convicted along with grandfather in the recruitment scam.
